It seems like they put the “B” team on the XP upgrade: There are so many “gotcha’s” in the installation, you are one of the lucky few if you can install it. If, for example, you’ve loaded SP2, you have to back down to RTM version to install SP3. Even then, you may be hosed: I did a clean install (repartitioned and formatted the disk, reinstalled from CD clean) and I get: “The expected version of the product was not found”. Before that, I had to deal with an “Access Denied” issue, downloading subinacl.exe and running a file to modify my registry. And all this on a clean install! I pity the foo’ who has to do this on multiple user machines.

Hmmmm. If the XP upgrade got the “B” team, and Vista is as bad (at least 3 BSOD, completely different from a new machine with plan vanilla apps, and a disruptively different and mostly worse user interface)and perhaps had the “C” team, what is Microsoft’s “A” team doing? Perhaps they’re vested and they’ve left the building?

Seriously, it seems to me that the only model MS has is to increase complexity so that open-source can’t duplicate and improve upon their apps, at least in a way that’s compatible with their file formats and such.

So let me put this out there: Is ANYONE happy with Vista? With XP SP3? I know I’m not the only one think they are really, really bad, but perhaps I’m missing the positive. Anyone?
