How To Make A Disk Image In Windows XP

Using Acronis True Image 10.0

Be sure you have read and understand the information on the previous page!

1st and most important step. Make a Bootable Rescue Disk!

You can use a floppy disk or CD, BUT be aware that a floppy disk can use as many as 7 disks!

Open Acronis True Image.

On the left of the screen in the section that labeled Tools, double-click Create Bootable Rescue Media. The following screen pops up, click Next.

(since I have Both True Image and Disk Director installed I have the option of creating a disk containing both)

Follow the instructions...

Step 1:

Step 2:

You should label the disk (with the following info) when finished:

Making An Image

Open Acronis True Image, double-click on Backup.

The wizard pops up, click Next.

In this example we are going to image the drive XP is installed on. Choose the appripriate disk or partition and click Next.

Choose a location to save the image to. I'm using another drive on this computer. You can also choose a CD/DVD burner, an external drive, or another computer. Also, choose a name for the image and click Next.

Choose the type of backup (the first image you make must be "full").

This will be a full backup. (see this page for the different types of backups) Click Next

This screen gives you the ability to set anvanced options. Choose "Set the options manually" and click Next.
