Backup Your PC Using Easy Media Creator 9 or Backup MYPC 2006 This article is part of Windows XP Backup Strategies For Home Users
Roxio EMC9 has 2 backup methods. The first method is called Easy Archive. It basically just copies files from on location to another. The second method is called System Backup. Choosing this option will result in a single file. The only real advantage to this method is that you can choose to compress the data. Both methods use Backup MyPC as an engine but choosing System Backup will actually launch Backup MyPC.
Backing Up Data Using Easy Archive
Open Roxio EMC9 Home. On the left of the screen click Backup and then Easy Archive:
Follow the steps: 1 - Browse to the folder containing the data you want to backup. (I used "My Music" in this example.) 2 - You can backup everything in the folder or just certain file types. (Since I just wanted to backup my mp3's, I choose "Music".) In this first example I did not click the Only Archive files changed since... button. 3 - Before moving to step 3 go down to the Destination Selection and browse to the location where you want to store your backup. (I used a separate drive on the same computer, but you can burn to CD/DVD, another computer, or an external hard drive.) After choosing the destination click the Save button the step 3:
Pick a name for the backup, it should be descriptive enough so that you recognize it.
In the lower-right corner of the screen, click on Click button to continue to run the backup:
Now that you've created the initial backup you can schedule an incremental backup. Change these options for the backup: - Check the Only Archive files changed since button (and choose a date). - Change the Scheduling options: to the schedule of your choice. - Click Save.
Backing Up Data or Your System Using System Backup Open Roxio EMC9 Home. On the left of the screen click Backup and then System Backup:
Choose the drive or folder you want to backup. As in the example above, after an initial backup you can choose an incremental backup or a differential backup.
Clicking on the More Options... button (above) will bring up the screen below. You can choose the options you desire. Remember, that compression only works for files that aren't already compressed. In my example I backed up mp3 files, mp3 files are already compressed. Using this option actually resulted in a slightly larger file than a standard backup.
After choosing your options click OK and then Start (this will bring up a screen allowing you to name the backup):
You're done! This is what the difference between the 2 backup methods looks like in the backup location. The folder is from Easy Archive and the file MyBackup 00001.qic is from System Backup.
