Yes, I actually recommended a Mac to someone.

April 9, 2008, 19:26(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

You guys that have been around here for a while know I LOVE poking fun at Mac users. But when it comes to the OS wars, as we say here in the south “I ain’t got no dawg in this fight”. I want everyone to use what is best for them. Believe me, if I could afford a $3000 Mac I would buy it and tri-boot OS X / Vista / openSUSE. I mean the stock Mac (desktop) comes with 8 freakin’ cores! So I thought I would share this with you.
First a little background. A buddy of mine was complaining about Vista on his laptop. First I was a little shocked because he had previously used a Mac. It turns out his girlfriends Mac bit the dust (I don’t know why) and he gave her his Mac. Then he had some guys that install the computers and software for his business set up a laptop for him (sorry, I don’t want to divulge anymore than that). This is a smart guy and he runs a very, very successful business.
The problems:
They put Vista on a laptop that had XP Tablet Edition 2005 on it. It is under-powered for Vista in the first place, most of the new or proper drivers were not installed (new as in they were around at the time of install). All default settings were left in place. Now keep in mind this guy was just using OS X… Here come the pop-ups, he has no clue what to do. You know what, he shouldn’t have to. He doesn’t know or want to know about computers. He couldn’t even check email because Outlook couldn’t/wouldn’t connect to the internet. He had several programs that would lock up and 2 that would outright crash. He browses the web, gets email, uses Skype, and chat. Why should he have learn what is trying to access what to use his computer? I think about this when I’m thinking of replacing my Mom’s aging PC. What to I tell her about UAC? What do I do when she can’t even get freakin’ email? I mean I have no problem disabling UAC on my computer, I have a big problem doing it on someone else’s. In the end that is exactly what I had to do because I didn’t want to do a reinstall. I didn’t like doing it. Here is part of the note I left him on his computer. Keep in mind I’m talking to someone who doesn’t know about computers. I look forward to any comments but please keep them respectful. Oh, and I still think picking on Mac users is fun!
