Windows 7 To Become Nagware, Again
After 10 years, support for Windows 7 is coming to an end on January 14, 2020, with Office 2010 following shortly thereafter. We are here to help you with recommendations for what to do next and answer questions that you may have about end of support. Beginning next month, if you are a Windows 7 customer, you can expect to see a notification appear on your Windows 7 PC. This is a courtesy reminder that you can expect to see a handful of times in 2019.

CCleaner v5.55
Bunch of stuff for people using the pay for version. Yeah, I don’t know why you would pay for this either.
Also a fix for the Chinese owned Opera browser.
I would skip this one.

on Windows 7 there is also a:
2019-03 Servicing Stack Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4490628),

I bought the Pro version of Ccleaner before it was bought by Avast. I will definitely be keeping an eye on things. The software updater could be useful though.

Eric, you have been one of my go to guru’s for, well, years. Thank you.

Have you had any trouble out of the Windows 7 updates the last couple of months?

I’ve had trouble on different machines on and off for at least a year. Usually requires a servicing stack update.

I guess it’s good to know I’m not the only one. The box wouldn’t patch last month so I ignored it. Wouldn’t patch again this month. Tried each update one at a time, manually installed the 2019-03 servicing stack update (which did not show up in WU), ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter (which supposedly fixed several issues), cleared the Software Distribution folder, etc. 2.5hrs later, still won’t patch. I decided to give up and will try restoring from a December system image this weekend and see if it can pull itself up to date from there. In short: fubar.

That sucks. You’ve done everything right and have chosen the best course of action.

Update: Restoring an older image didn’t help. Formatting the drive and reinstalling the OS didn’t help (because the new Dell drivers they released two months ago won’t install…they claim not to have previous versions available). Looks like I’ll be running Win10 on it now. Thanks MS and Dell.

Sorry to hear that. What drivers?

It’s an Alienware 15, first release I think. The chipset, video, audio, and network drivers are the ones which won’t install. Basically all the important stuff.
