Am I Finally Upgrading To Windows 11?

September 10, 2025, 15:55(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound) 4 Comments

Y’all keep asking so the answer is…

Not if I can help it.
Why? Because I abhor Windows 11.
Truth be told of the seven desktops and one laptop on my network only two meet Windows 11 hardware requirements (I know there are many options to bypass this but to what end?)
The remaining unworthy five plus the orphan laptop will stay on Windows 10 for now. One is my wife’s rarely used desktop, one is a home server, three do multimedia duties. Those three will be unplugged from the network. I intend on using the free ESU option for the first two should it actually become available. Ditto for the laptop.
ESU = Extended Security Updates: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/extended-security-updates
As of this writing I have not been offered the ESU option on any of my computers. Yes, I’m aware of the script to force the issue but I’m content with waiting until mid-October.
I also intend to use the free ESU option for the 2 desktops that are eligible for Windows 11. I truly enjoy using Win10 for office and multimedia type work and doing my day-to-day stuff in my Linux Mint virtual machine. Come October 2026 I may have to reverse that setup. I’ll re-evaluate the whole thing then.

I bought a PC with win11 installed. My other one is like you say not worthy. Anyway it not that much difference to me once you get used to it.

Actually, for me, it turns out Win11 is not that bad and not that different from Win10. That said, you need O&OShutup, Winaero Tweaker, StartAllBack (my preference-$4.99 single PC license) or Stardock Start11 ($10.00 single PC license) to make Win11 tolerable.

I upgraded my local account desktop from Win10 to Win11 and it worked well. I did not lose anything.

Windows 11 24H2 running without issues in an old I5-3570 since Jan 2025. It runs almost as fast as W10. Just minor differences in the interface. Some of them can be tweaked. It takes about one week to get used to it. The windows management is smoother
