Justin Verlander Just Won’t Stop Dominating
“It makes me sad as someone who is such a huge fan of starting pitching, but there will never be another pitcher like Justin Verlander. We live in the age of the five-inning start. We live in an era where starting pictures get pulled when they have perfect games going. The age of the 200+ inning starter is slowly dying out. And then you have Justin Verlander, who at the age of 39, is showing no signs of slowing down. You have to appreciate the greatness.“

Stuff I bookmarked recently. Some off topic, some not:

The U.S. is sweltering. The heat wave of 1936 was far deadlier.
“The killer U.S. heat wave of 1936 spread as far north as Canada, led to the heat-related deaths of an estimated 5,000 people, sent thermometers to a record 121 degrees Fahrenheit in Steele, N.D., and made that July the warmest month ever recorded in the United States.”

CEOs average pay in 2021 was 324 times higher than employees
“While the report found that real worker wages fell 2.4 percent in 2021 after adjusting for inflation, the average compensation for the top CEOs in the nation last year was $18.3 million, a more than $5 million increase over the past decade.”

America’s favorite family outings are increasingly out of reach
“We found that these family outings have increased in cost at 2-3x the rate of inflation — and that, in order to afford them, today’s American families have to work up to 2x as many hours as they did 60 years ago.”
