I got a lot of questions this week about installing Win10 so I’m gonna lump a few of the answers into one section:
– To clean install you must upgrade first.
– Upon doing a clean install (after upgrade) Win10 should activate all by its lonesome.
– A reset is not a clean install.
– You should really give the upgrade a chance. You may just decide it runs pretty darn good and the hassle of a clean install isn’t worth it.

Q – My question is, I want to eventually do a clean install (on all my machines), and were wondering if I really need to keep those partitions if I do a clean install. I can’t really see a need to since I will probably never go back and was needing a little expert advice on the matter.
A – You can trash it. I would do a system image first.

Q – Is this reasonable? I get this message from Sony and they say drivers will be ready in December but windows is ready to upgrade now, sooo WWTHD?
DO NOT UPGRADE YET.
To ensure your VAIO PC works with Windows 10, it is strongly recommended that you wait to upgrade your PC until the drivers are ready.
A – I think they are dragging their a$s, but I would wait. Win10 will only get better.

Q – I started using Acronis (2015) based upon what I have read in your TWEAKHOUND blog. I have an issue with it. The downloadable iso image you get when you purchase Acronis does not play well with my machine. Acronis Tech Support has been of no help since my 60 day free support is up and I refuse to pay their high price for on going support.
I was hopping you might have some time to advise me on what to do.
The problem is:
I have to enable legacy boot (also turn off secure boot) to get the image to boot properly. I don’t do this I get a garbled screen
when the image boots.
I know there are options that can bee added during boot, but I cannot find any documentation on them. I believe the image uses some variation
of Linux, but I am a raw novice with Linux.
Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I follow your blog constantly.
A – I’ve not encountered that issue so I can only give advice from that standpoint. (I don’t use secure boot.)
You should know that the downloadable iso is indeed a Linux disk.
I’m just gonna throw some stuff out to try and help.
– Whatever you decide, be sure to use the latest version of TI and boot disk ( build 6613 dated July, 2015)
– The easiest thing to do is what you have been doing, change the EFI boot options. ( https://forum.acronis.com/forum/75632 )
