My “Review” Of Star Trek: Discovery

startrek

March 4, 2018, 14:34(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

I finally got to see Star Trek: Discovery. I opted for a 7 day free trial of CBS All Access. I managed to make it through 4 episodes before I just couldn’t take it anymore.

My rating:

I have seen every Star Trek series and every Star Trek movie. I suffered through Voyager (it had it’s moments) and Enterprise (it didn’t). Discovery is the worst Star Trek series ever made. I only gave it one badge because it is Star Trek. A few of my gripes.
– The CBS All Access pay for yet another streaming platform Bravo Sierra.
– The main character is a mutineer. A fracking MUTINEER. There is no way I will ever, EVER, trust her.
– The subtitles for the Klingons. It was cute for about 5 minutes, then it was annoying.
– Oh! Look at our ode the the original series! We have a tribble on the captains desk. Lame.
– The writing is just not good.
– I’m not a super-Trekker but it seems the basic timeline was just thrown out the window.
– It just doesn’t feel like Star Trek.

My ranking of Star Trek series. Interestingly it is also chronological?!
The Original Series
The Next Generation
Deep Space Nine
Voyager
Enterprise
Discovery

My favorite actors playing main captains/characters:
Chris Pine
William Shatner
Patrick Stewart
Avery Brooks
Kate Mulgrew

4 of 15 does not a series make. You missed a lot, but your time, not mine. The ‘mutineer’ would have done what needed to be done and had she had the chance, saved countless lives. You didn’t give it a chance. I have watched all, including the first airing of the original series. Discovery ranks up with any of them. Also own all of the movies, and the first 15 episodes of Discovery. I enjoyed the original Star Wars, but that was it. Also own that series save the most recent. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

I despise the series as well and have seen everything Star Trek myself. However, there is a particular arc with a twist in the middle of the season that almost redeemed Discovery for me and made me think it had real potential. Sadly that didn’t last for long but I still recommend you push on and see these parts before coming to your full conclusion.
