Time To Run Windows Update

windows securityAn update has been re-released for XP and Vista Users:
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS13-057 – Critical Vulnerability in Windows Media Format Runtime Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2847883)
“The rereleased updates address an application compatibility issue in which WMV encoded video could fail to properly render during playback. Customers should install the rereleased updates.”

There is also an update available for Office 2010 that I’ve not seen appear via Windows Update.
You can wait for it to appear or download and install it manually:

This program adds a Windows 7 style Start Menu to Windows 8. It is my personal favorite. Cost is $4.99 (U.S.).

-Updated for Windows 8.1 Preview build compatibility
-Start8 allows customizing the Start button image AND provides a desktop Start menu
-Added new prompt on first run to select a default button image. Upgrade installs will not see this prompt.
-When running on Windows 8.1 Preview, respect the OS configuration for “boot to desktop”
-When used with Stardock WindowBlinds, you can also override the Start button in use with the WB setting for “always use the OS” button
-Options for showing the Windows 8.1 Start screen in other than full-screen mode are disabled in this version of Start8

This release has 25 security fixes.
Other highlights:
– Improved Omnibox suggestions based on the recency sites you have visited
– Ability to reset your profile back to its original state
– Many new apps and extensions APIs
– Lots of stability and performance improvements

UBCD 5.2.6 Released

UBCD V5.2.6 is now available for download. Parted Magic has been updated to 2013_08_01. CPUstress has been updated to V2.3.5 (with thanks to Explorer09). The xfprot module within Parted Magic has also been updated to V2.4expl6 (again with thanks to Explorer09). The changelog is available here. You can download the latest version here.
