Tomorrow Will Be A Busy Day For Windows Users
April 8th’s Patch Tuesday marks:
The end of official Windows XP support.
See eXPired – The Last Windows XP Guide You’ll Ever Need and other XP articles.
Official support ends for Office 2003 too.
Be sure to update them TOMORROW.
Windows 8.1 Update 1 will also be released.
In some of the Geekier forums some folks have reported issues with this update. I don’t know if it’s the update itself, a bad download, or failure to follow the install order (RTM and MDSN had manual downloads).
I would advise folks to either:
1 – Backup their computer before taking this update.
or
2 – Wait a few days to see what is being said around the web about this update.
All other currently supported Windows will have a few critical updates:

FYI, Patch Tuesday updates are released around 1300 hrs EST (1000 hrs PST, 1700 hrs UTC).
In addition, Adobe usually release their security updates on Patch Tuesday.

Installed – Windows 8.1 Update 1
As many of you know Windows 8.1 Update 1 was released to MSDN. Regular users will get it via Windows Update starting April 8th.
Hopefully some time after that ISO’s for regular users will become available, um, “officially”.
I decided to do a clean install via the x64 ISO using the following steps. [Read more…] about Installed – Windows 8.1 Update 1

openSUSE Moves To Rolling KDE Releases
For those that like the latest KDE releases, openSUSE has just made that easier. They’ve added a “rolling release” repo.
See: Raymond Wooninck – Moving to a rolling KDE release repository
The new repos are:
KDE – http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Current/openSUSE_13.1/
KDE Extra – http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Current_openSUSE_13.1/
To switch to the repos use the “switch system packages” option in YaST.
See: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Vendor_change_update#Full_repository_Vendor_change
(if you use Packman be sure to use this method on the Packman repo after your initial update)
You can follow all the latest KDE release news here.
