I just watched the finals and caught several games this week.
What a pleasure to watch baseball (or any sport) being played the way it should be played. Those kids are all fantastic ball players and play with a passion that is lost in professional sports. Congratulations to the team from Columbus, Georgia for winning the series. Congratulations to the team from Kawaguchi, Japan as runner-up.
I’ve been running some tests on Vista networking tweaks and I would appreciate any input you might have, especially in the testing department. Below are the tweaks and test scenarios. I will report my impressions in a few days so as not to influence any would-be testers. If you provide feedback please include what type of connection (cable, dsl, etc.) you have, what type of network card (10/100, giga, etc.) and what type of downloading you do (standard from browser, torrent, download manager, etc). I keep seeing posts around the net asking about, comparing, and actually shopping for hardware to increase your WEI score. I know most of my fellow geeks know this is just a gimmick and nod to hardware vendors on the part of MS but some folks just don’t seem to get it. You want to increase your score? Here ya go (click thumbnail for a larger pic):

Your WEI score is here: C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore , edit it as you like ๐
Helps create repos. Pretty cool but use with caution.
…A version of the increasingly popular Ubuntu desktop Linux distribution, based on Debian and the Gnome desktop, it is known internally as ‘Goobuntu’…
PC Mechanic takes a gander at Firefox 3 which is scheduled to be released about October 30th.
I need your help. I’m working on a revision to my XP backup article, a version for Vista, and a version for Linux.
– What program(s) to you use for backups?
– Where do you backup? (another drive, CD/DVD, external hard drive, another computer…)
Please take a moment to reply by posting a comment. Thanks ๐
PCstats takes a look at Vista’s ReadyBoost feature. Decent article. Worth a read.
…Even with 512MB of system memory, ReadyBoost only increases performance in the benchmarks by a few percentage points…What the tests don’t show, is that applications within Windows were clearly quicker in loading…For memory configurations 1GB or higher, ReadyBoost does not improve system performance, at least not enough for you to notice it…

[H]ardOCP has the specs of a new sound card that looks pretty darn cool. I was beginning to think sound card technology was dead.
