What backup program(s) do you use?

August 23, 2007, 12:19(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

I need your help. I’m working on a revision to my XP backup article, a version for Vista, and a version for Linux.

– What program(s) to you use for backups?

– Where do you backup? (another drive, CD/DVD, external hard drive, another computer…)

Please take a moment to reply by posting a comment. Thanks 🙂

ReadyBoost: Does it Make a Difference?

August 23, 2007, 11:27(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

PCstats takes a look at Vista’s ReadyBoost feature. Decent article. Worth a read.

…Even with 512MB of system memory, ReadyBoost only increases performance in the benchmarks by a few percentage points…What the tests don’t show, is that applications within Windows were clearly quicker in loading…For memory configurations 1GB or higher, ReadyBoost does not improve system performance, at least not enough for you to notice it…

Who needs Windows Home Server with Linux around?

August 22, 2007, 14:29(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

I Beta tested WHS and was 100% unimpressed with it. There isn’t anything there you can’t get from another OS and/or product. I didn’t even understand the rational behind the offering. First, most folks don’t need or want a home server. Second, any OS you want to use is fine, you don’t need a “server OS”. Windows XP or better yet Linux will do just fine. Oh, and note to the author of the article… No it isn’t a joke, just another attempt by you-know-who to separate your money from your wallet.

Comcast denies monkeying with BitTorrent traffic

August 22, 2007, 14:22(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

Word spread over the internet the last few days about Comcast throttling torrent downloads. Comcast is denying it. I’ve got Comcast and have seen no evidence of that. I’m not saying it is or isn’t happening, it just isn’t happening to me.
Edit: Just in is a rebuttal from TorrentFreak:

Last week we reported that Comcast is making it impossible for its customers to seed files on BitTorrent. Not surprisingly, Comcast’s PR department does all it can to deny there allegations, but we – and with us some of the leading BitTorrent developers – know better…

Microsoft: We're not Google, and we're proud of it

August 21, 2007, 17:39(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

This is why so many people hate Microsoft, protecting corporations at the expense of the consumer. They actually admit it, as they try to slam Google.
