Sysinternals Freeware Updates

May 27, 2015, 06:40(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

cooltools

cooltoolsUpdates include Autoruns v13.4 and Process Monitor v3.2.
See the Sysinternals blog for more info.

Autoruns v13.4
Autoruns, the most comprehensive utility available for showing what executables, DLLs, and drivers are configured to automatically start and load, now reports Office addins, adds several additional autostart locations, and no longer hides hosting executables like cmd.exe, powershell.exe and others when Windows and Microsoft filters are in effect.

Process Monitor v3.2
Process Monitor, a real-time system monitoring utility that captures registry, file system, process and thread, CPU, DLL and network activity, adds an option to show all file system values in hexadecimal, adds additional error code and file system control strings, and fixes a bug that prevented boot capture on Windows 10.

Samsung Magician 4.6 Released, Sort Of
I mentioned last week that v4.6 had somehow found it’s way to the internet. It now appears on their download page. But…
The update shows but when I try and download I get an error page:

We apologize for your inconvenience
Please try again within 24 hours

From April 23-April 27, 2015, there is a daily limit on the number of Magician 4.6 downloads.
Unfortunately, the download limit for the day has been reached, please try again within 24 hours.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you. Thank you.

What is this, amateur hour at Samsung?
I’ve also noticed that the Samsung EVO Performance Restoration Software has disappeared (as of this writing). I suspect an update is forthcoming.

Samsung Magician v.4.6 Introduction and Installation Guide PDF
Major Geeks has had the download since the same day I had mentioned it (April 14th).
*I have no way to tell if the version that appeared on the internet last week is the actual final version until I get the download straight from Samsung.
*edit – I finally got through to the official download. The files that hit the internet last week are the same as this one.

CCleaner 5.05
Piriform has released it’s monthly update of CCleaner.

Win10 July Release
I was watching Windows Weekly and Mary Jo says her sources say the July release date is correct.
However her, Paul, and Leo were debating what “release” means.
You know like, “It depends upon what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.” 🙄

Fun With Audio Players – 2015

speaker“Everyone talks about rock these days; the problem is they forget about the roll.” Keith Richards

4 years ago I wrote a popular article called Fun With Audio Players. That version contained a variety of audio player programs. Since folks asked about my Winamp setup from here I thought I would re-do that article. This version only contains the 2 audio players I use for listening to music:

Microsoft Image Composite Editor

March 27, 2015, 10:33(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

ms_ice

ms_iceA few weeks ago I was looking for a free panoramic image creator. I stumbled on the Microsoft Image Composite Editor which I had never heard of before.
I thought some of you might find it useful, I did!
Download & Info

What is Image Composite Editor?
Image Composite Editor (ICE) is an advanced panoramic image stitcher created by the Microsoft Research Computational Photography Group. Given a set of overlapping photographs of a scene shot from a single camera location, the app creates a high-resolution panorama that seamlessly combines the original images. ICE can also create a panorama from a panning video, including stop-motion action overlaid on the background. Finished panoramas can be shared with friends and viewed in 3D by uploading them to the Photosynth web site. Panoramas can also be saved in a wide variety of image formats, including JPEG, TIFF, and Photoshop’s PSD/PSB format, as well as the multiresolution tiled format used by HD View and Deep Zoom.
