www_newsWindows 7 SP2 “ish” Update
Microsoft has released Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1. “This rollup package includes almost all the updates that were released after the release of SP1 for Windows 7“. While technically not a Service Pack, for home users it amounts to the same thing. Though this package does contain some telemetry related updates (like KB3080149), AFAIK it does not contain the GWX update (KB3035583).

The dumbest thing from MS when clicking on Windows 7 SP2 link. I am running Explorer 11:

To use this Web site’s full functionality, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.

To upgrade to the latest version of the browser, go to the Internet Explorer Downloads Website.
If you prefer to use a different Web browser, you can get updates from the Microsoft Download Center.

I tried it out on a reloaded HP desktop with windows 7 SP1 on it and the standalone installer has been “Searching for up dates on this computer….” for five hours so far and has not moved beyond that yet. This is the 64bit version.

Try installing KB3102810 Installing and searching for updates is slow and high CPU usage occurs in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

The Convenience Rollup Makes a Big Difference, But Windows 7 Updating is Still Broken
