Win10 – God Mode Icon Name Fix

December 1, 2020, 12:56(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

I’m slowly working my way through what to put in the new Win10 Tweak Guide (suggestions welcome). Part of this is going through each step of the old version and seeing if/what/how things have changed. One such example is creating God Mode shortcut…

As you may recall, “God Mode” was a shortcut for “All Tasks” in Control Panel. You did this by right-clicking on the Desktop, within a partition, or in a folder > choose New > Folder > enter God Mode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} where it says New Folder.
At some point Win10 broke this because it seems to break everything somewhere along the way. The icon name was blank and you couldn’t name it.
As it turns out, the fix is easy (credit: Keith Miller):
“You can create a shortcut and specify the target as:
explorer shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
and name it whatever you like.”
So we get:
Right-click on the Desktop, within a partition, or in a folder > choose New > Shortcut > enter explorer shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} > click Next and give it a name.
Now, that will leave you with the Explorer icon, which, meh. You can change it by right-click on the icon and choose Properties > Change Icon button > and choosing or browsing to an icon (I made my own). You can move this, or pin this wherever you like. Now double-click it and check it out!

    You must be a mind reader. Yesterday I finally got around to tweaking Win 10 per your instructions and I came across this problem. I must have tried it 10 times thinking I had done something wrong. Then, TweakHound to the rescue. Thanks!

    Love your comment “At some point Win10… seems to break everything somewhere along the way”. Had a good old chuckle on that truism! Anyway, what about a special section that focuses on registry tweaks that could tame the “beast” that we know as Windows 10 and especially relevant for Windows 10 Home users?
