While looking at some articles about the new Z590 chipset, I ran across this:
ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Extreme Glacial
Anandtec says it’s $1843. Yes. $1,843. For a motherboard…
It got me thinking, what does a “dream system” cost?
(prices rounded)
Motherboard – ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Extreme Glacial $1843
CPU – Intel Core i9-10900KF $500
CPU Cooler – Corsair H115i RGB Platinum (not sure about this as it has a water block) $170
Memory – Assume for premium RAM 64GB (probably more than this) $1000
Video Card – ASUS EKWB GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X $2055
Storage – Highly debatable. x2 – 1TB SAMSUNG 980 PRO 1TB M.2 $460
Power Supply – Corsair AX1000 1000 Watt, 80+ Titanium Certified, Fully Modular Power Supply $ 450
Case – Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL $245
Total – $6723 + sales tax of $336 (5%) {U.S. low of 0% in four states, high of 7.25% in California (surprise)}
Final Cost – $7, 059

Is there a local tax in there? Do online shops add it on?

Here in New York City, we have a total of 8.875%.
The City Sales Tax rate is 4.5%, NY State Sales and Use Tax is 4% and the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District surcharge of 0.375% for a total Sales and Use Tax of 8.875 percent. That last piece is assessed in counties that are served by the MTA, i.e., Bus, Subways, and railroads.
And, then we get hit with both state and city income taxes. Oh, joy to the world.
So, your system would have a sales tax almost $600.

Nice stuff Eric. I wouldn’t install Windows (any version) on a rig like this.

TX state sales tax is 6.25, municipalities can add on up to 2.00, thus 8.25%

Online sales in TX didn’t used to be applied, until they realized how much lost revenue was being lost to Amazon and brick & mortars complained they were unfairly competing. So, now it’s collected…… and people STILL shop at Amazon!

It’s price and free shipping, Einstein. 😂

Yeah, I just factored in state. I forgot that many cities collect it too.
Amazon has been adding my states tax since 2013. I still factor it in for some purchases and there are still places that do not collect the tax.
