Macrium Reflect Updated

November 6, 2021, 09:50(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

Macrium Reflect 8.0.6353
They have a blog post dated yesterday exclaiming Reflect 8 Free is out now!
I find this to be rather odd since I’ve been using version 8 (free) since May and provided the links here.
Anywho… There’s a bunch of fixes and Win11 support.

For those new here, I use Macrium Reflect to create disk images on all my computers. I use a bootable USB drive via the Create Rescue Media menu option. I only do backups offline. Old habits die hard.

I’m using MR to backup my Windows installation on all my computers (and clients) but the data is backed up to a NAS (RAID configuration) with snapshot (Asustor 6404T). I found this way much simpler and practical to recover data almost in real time

I do not leave the backup service running (“C:\Program Files\Macrium\Common\MacriumService.exe”). Indeed, I only have MR actually installed on 2 computers. In all but 1 case the backup/restore is from SSD to SSD and takes under 3 minutes. I will never trust a snapshot (or online images). Probably OK these days but in the past I saw too many disasters happen with them. As I said, old habits die hard.

Im with you, although I still use a bootable cd/dvd (whatever’s handy to create the bootable disk). I have 4 external 4-5 TB hardrives for Monday thru Thursday, each will hold 3-4 complete images of my primary work computer. Every day before I leave the appropriate external hard drive for the computer is attached and the main computer rebooted to the Reflect boot CD and then image all the hard drives in the computer. All other external hard drives live with me in a brief case.
