My Printer Setup

September 8, 2015, 16:19(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

printer_1I still do freelance computer setups for individuals and small businesses on occasion. With that comes questions about printers and recommendations for printers.
I recommend networked HP printers. That means it has Ethernet and/or wifi.
Why HP? IMHO easy setup, good drivers, full Linux support. My printer is over 8 years old and they have Windows 10 drivers for it.

Report: Windows 10 Threshold 2 Pushed Back To November

September 3, 2015, 11:13(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

win10_logo

win10_logoWinbeta is reporting that Win10 TH2 will be released in November and not October as expected.
This is good news / bad news.
It is good news because TH2 is incredibly buggy which I attribute to the new Memory Compression feature. This is simply IMHO. This will give MS time to sort things out.
It is bad news because as I stated before, I will not release thw Win10 tweak guide until TH2. I just don’t want to continually rewrite the guide. Win10 is a perpetually ungraded OS and TH2 is being followed by Redstone in 2016.

Windows 7 and 8 Spying On You Too?

September 1, 2015, 14:43(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

thpinpostlogoArs Technica – Microsoft accused of adding spy features to Windows 7, 8
By now we are all aware that by default Win10 sends a lot of info to Microsoft. Folks have found Windows 7 & 8 are doing it too.
Well, kinda. Let me explain. Microsoft added 2 updates that collect more info.
1 – KB3022345 superseded by KB3068708 superseded by KB3080149 adds the Diagnostics Tracking Service.
2 – KB3075249 seems to monitor UAC prompts (hopefully to make it less annoying)
