Buy – Tweaking Windows 10

December 8, 2015, 12:04(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

th

Buy – Tweaking Windows 10
You can get a printable PDF, eBook-type version of Tweaking Windows 10 – Version 20H2 (200+ pages) for $5.00 (U.S.).
***May 19th, 2021
There are no significant changes from 20H2 (Windows 10 October 2020 Update) and the 21H1 (Windows May 2021 Update).
This guide will remain unchanged until 21H2.

The only reasons I’ve renamed the guide is to avoid confusion and because…Google.
Please note the content of this guide is no different than the online version. I have simply formatted it in Word to make it easy for printing or viewing as a PDF/eBook.
This guide is for your personal use only. You may not redistribute the guide.
The file you will get is a PDF file (viewable/printable in Adobe Reader, FoxIt Reader, as an eBook, etc.).
This is available through PayPal only.
(You do not need a PayPal account account, just a credit card.) (Please note that I will not make other payment options available.)
Once payment is received I will email you the guide or a download link. Please allow up to 48hrs. although I will usually send it much, much faster. On occasion I do not get notified of purchases. If you do not hear from me in 48 hours please forward your Paypal email to me. You are responsible for monitoring your email. Under no circumstances will I click on a link to be “approved” or “added” to your email. This practice is quite rude.
Click a button below to purchase. If you have problems contact me at tweakblog at tweakhound.com.
PayPal can be a PITA. If the button isn’t working try the ones further below. If you do not see a button check your ad blocker.
There are 3 options
1 – $5 (U.S.) One time purchase
2 – $10 (U.S.) One year of updates (this should get you through 2 or three editions)
3 – $20 (U.S.) Lifetime updates
(Understand it is up to you to contact me for your free updates. I do not keep your info lying around.)

FAQ’s
Why am I charging for the guide? I’ve spent countless hours researching and writing the guide. I pay for the bandwidth for this site out of my own pocket. Not to mention the software, hardware, and other things that go into making this site possible. I figure $5 is a pretty good deal for all this material. At your local book store a magazine containing a fraction of this info would run 10+ dollars, books at 40+ dollars. Besides, the online version is always available and always free!
In all these years only one person has complained. No, it is not a hardcopy. See the part where it says “printable”? (Yes, they actually thought I was going to snail mail them a hardcopy for $5.)
The 200+ page PDF not only has a linked index but a bookmarks bar as well. I will be working on sending out this version to those who are entitled later today. If you are entitled to an update and haven’t heard from me by tomorrow, please contact me. Preferably by forwarding the last email from me.

Site News
Last week I switched the site font to Open Sans. I wanted to make the site easier to read across platforms and operating systems. I think it looks better too.
Open Sans is a free Google Font. As of this writing there are over 1700 FREE fonts/font variants. Many of them are awesome. Here are some download links if you’re interested.
Google Fonts (main page)
Google Fonts (github) (has download all link)
Download all Google Fonts: https://github.com/google/fonts/archive/master.zip
Open Sans

I downloaded all, extracted, then searched that folder for ttf fonts ( *.ttf ).
Then I copied them to a separate folder and installed the ones I liked.

I wonder what he thinks about this?!
I should note, again, that I did not make this discovery alone. I had help from a reader.

Windows 10 Privacy Settings

A companion guide for:

TweakHound’s

Tweaking Windows 10

Version 4.0, last edited 17 May, 2018

Windows 10 Privacy Settings

Page 3 – Telemetry, Cortana

Page 5 – Services, Microsoft Browsers

Page 7 – Apps To Tweak Privacy Settings

Windows 10 does a lot of communicating with Microsoft servers. Many people find this to be somewhere between an annoyance to an outright invasion of privacy. Some folks suspect it’s even worse than that. For its part, Microsoft steadfastly insists that they do not invade your privacy, that any information sent back to Microsoft is “anonymous”, and that it is for your own good. I will leave it up to you to decide.

This section will show you your privacy options, the settings I use, and 3rd party apps that can help you configure your settings.

It should be noted that turning off some settings can hamper the ability of some built-in and Microsoft Store apps to function properly. Since I don’t use these things I haven’t run into a single issue.

Windows Insider Program

This is a neat program for those that want updates before everyone else or Geeks that live on the bleeding edge. It also sends the maximum amount of data back to Microsoft. If privacy is a concern, then don’t use this.

More info: https://insider.windows.com/

Use A Local Account

If you are using a Microsoft Account and privacy is a concern you should switch to a Local Account. Be warned you will lose syncing. If this is important to you then skip this.

More info: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/getstarted-microsoft-account

Let switch to a Local account:

Choose All settings

Choose Accounts

Choose Sign in with a local account instead

Enter current user password

Enter the new User name, Password, and Password hint.

Sign out and finish.
