November 22, 2010, 18:49(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

This article is intended to give the average home user some insight into the two most popular PDF readers. Folks in a corporate environment or that do more than just read PDF’s will obviously have different requirements and / or constraints. Please take that into consideration when reading this article.

Finding Or Creating Windows 7 Start Orbs

February 25, 2010, 16:06(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

BlackOrbLightning1

Place to find Windows 7 Start Orbs / Buttons:
DeviantArt (narrow search to just “orb“)
Windows Seven Forums (see the “sticky” posts)

Awesome guide on how to make a start orb / button using Photoshop on YouTube: How to make start button for Windows 7

StartOrbz is a program for creating and applying start orbs. I have not used it.

I use Windows 7 Start Button Changer to change my start orb.
( See here for how to use it: http://kishan-bagaria.deviantart.com/art/Win-7-Start-Button-Changer-1-0-153001999 )

My attempt at making a start orb (no after effects (click), just hover)
It should be noted that all my desktops / taskbars are dark (black / grey) so I’ve no idea how they look on other colors:
Black Orb w/lightning (I used the Black Start Orb form here)
BlackOrbLightning1
.
Metallica Ninja Star Start Orb ( I used the star from here)
MetallicaStart

Anyone is welcome to use them, just right-click > save as. (Please use proper credit if posting them)

If you make one and want to pass it along post it here.

I would appreciate any good links on this subject.

Blog Updates

February 4, 2010, 18:41(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

– I’ve finally updated the XP Freeware Machine article. It is virtually the same as the Windows 7 Freeware Machine with a few minor changes that are OS specific. The Vista Freeware Machine is now defunct. With the creation of the Windows 7 version it is pretty much redundant and truth be told I no longer run Vista on any of my computers.
*
– I’m looking for more tips for the next revision of Tweaking Windows 7.
*
– If you have emailed me in the past month and I have not responded, please resend your email.
