I’m not sure why all the fuss this week. We Geeks have warned you about this from the inception. Forum members at places like MDL have been shouting about this daily for many months. I first warned about GWX in April. I have a post on blocking this 3 weeks ago. Yes, this is a massively shitty thing for Microsoft to do, yes I think someone should be fired over this, yes I think it calls for lawsuites, but like I said, we Geeks warned you. This isn’t new news and you should be careful about trusting sites/people that act like it is.

The results of the “What Windows OS is your main OS?” poll kinda shocked me. I didn’t think so many of you would jump to Win10 so fast. I’m also a bit disheartened that so many people are still using XP.

I have six win7 machines, two have been upgraded to win10 and subsequently rolled back to win7. This is the best upgrade process yet, but too many problems with legacy applications. I’ve also tried a clean install after an upgrade, then installing legacy apps, but no joy. As an insider, I will continue to play with the fast ring builds, but I do NOT plan to replace any win7 installs with win10.
I’d love to answer the poll, but I’m somewhere between “loving it” and “meh.” I’ll have a better opinion when I’ve had time to re-tweak everything, since I spent so much time making 8.1 as perfect as it could be for my purposes, and 10 reset half of my settings when the update ran. So far I like that I have a start menu again, but I don’t like that folders are now sorted alphabetically with shortcuts – I spent forever coming up with a good start screen folder scheme for 8.1, and now I’m back to the drawing board!
