Bring On The Weekend!

September 19, 2014, 14:45(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

oktoberfest

oktoberfestFall officially starts September 22 at 22:29 EDT. I love this time of year, football, MLB pennant races heating up, pumpkin and Oktoberfest style beers, and Oktoberfest celebrations. For those non-U.S. folks, yes, we do have lots of smaller Oktoberfest celebrations here. There are several in my town including one this weekend. They are not as magnificent as the original but the spirit is still there! I do want to attend the Munich Oktoberfest again someday. Anyway, on with the news…

Computer Hardware
Nvidia 344.11 WHQL Drivers (Linux 343.22 drivers too)
[H]ardOCP – NVIDIA Maxwell GPU GeForce GTX 980 Video Card Review

openSUSE 13.2
openSUSE 13.2 is scheduled to be released on November, 4th. The Beta was supposed to be released yesterday but has been pushed back until Monday.
Oh, and for you guys in the aforementioned thread complaining, “We need serious help marketing/spreading the word about openSUSE 13.2“. Get off your high-horse and engage people. I asked for access to the 13.1 GM as soon as it was ready so I could have a review up on release day. My request went ignored. How about getting folks to write articles on actual websites and not in those horrid forum articles section. Sorry, but openSUSE Lizards isn’t much better (horrible format). You need something that looks a little better. Maybe try offering some swag or something to potential writers too.

Software
Firefox 32.0.2. Yes. this is the 3rd update this month
Ultimate Boot CD 5.3.2

Etc.
Lots of folks aren’t happy with Acronis TI 2015.

ms_mess_analyzerOnce a staple of AOR stations, Twofer Tuesday seems relegated to the Classic Rock stations now. Fear not! I’ve got Two Twofers here 😉

OCAU
TweakHound.com has been around for over 12 years now. In that time I’ve seen darn near every tech/computer site that was around back then disappear.
One site that has hung on and still does it old school is Overclockers Australia. I’m glad they are still around.
:clink:

Google Chrome Software Removal Tool
This is a weird one.
“If you notice Chrome behaving strangely (for example, showing you unusual startup pages, toolbars, or pop-up ads you can’t get rid of), it may be due to an unwanted program on your computer.”
Well gee wiz. Ya think?
“You may be able to fix the problem by downloading and running the Software Removal Tool. Think of this as a “factory reset” of Chrome. It restores Chrome’s original settings and removes programs that affect its behavior.”
Um…OK…

Cool Links
Here are some interesting links that were brought to my attention this week:
How to determine the appropriate page file size for 64-bit versions of Windows
How to easily delete your online accounts

Reader Email
This one was kinda long but the gist of it (as I understood it) was this guy has 2 raided SSD’s and 2 raided 2TB hard drives. He wants some software that will basically make the SSD’s cache for the hard drives. Essentially creating a hybrid setup.
I’ve got no clue on this one. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know.
