*Updated here: The Windows 10 Pagefile And Running Without One

The topic of running without a pagefile is a popular one.
Unfortunately most of the discussion is usually based around anecdotal evidence.
This article aims to provide you with the information you need to find out if you need a pagefile and provides benchmarks on my results of running with and without a pagefile.

Recommended Software – Ninite Updater

October 10, 2011, 15:06(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

ninite

niniteMany of you are aware of Ninite which is a great way to one-click install software on a new rig.
The maker of Ninite also has another program called Ninite Updater.
It’s a fantastic program that updates software without any need for intervention on your part.
I find it particularly useful after restoring a computer from backup, just one click and virtually all my program are updated.
I don’t often recommend pay-for software but this is an exceptional program.
It is priced at $9.99 per year.
I liked it so much I purchased the 5-machine option at $29.99 per year.
You can check out Ed Bott’s – If your PC picks up a virus, whose fault is it? for one reason why keeping your software up to date is important.

When we designed Ninite Updater we thought about the ideal software update process:

  • Update checking happens in the background.
  • No need to launch a checker app again and again.
  • Apps should be detected automatically. No need to select them or install software a special way.
  • You can install all your updates at once. Fully automatic.
  • No websites to visit.
  • No downloads to manage or organize.
  • No clicking Next Next Next in installers.
  • Updates come without browser toolbars or other annoying junkware.
  • Your desktop shortcuts are not changed.
  • If you don’t want to update one app, you can skip it and update the rest.
