openSUSE Moves To Rolling KDE Releases

opensusegeekoFor those that like the latest KDE releases, openSUSE has just made that easier. They’ve added a “rolling release” repo.

The new repos are:
KDE – http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Current/openSUSE_13.1/
KDE Extra – http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Current_openSUSE_13.1/
To switch to the repos use the “switch system packages” option in YaST.

(if you use Packman be sure to use this method on the Packman repo after your initial update)

How To Network openSUSE 12.3 And Windows

opensusegeekoThis article will show you how to network openSUSE 12.3 with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
It is assumed that you are using the openSUSE default desktop, KDE4 (you’ll need Samba client/server installed).
Any Windows  machines should NOT be using the HomeGroup option but instead use the advanced sharing option.
How to share Windows files is not covered. If you can’t do that, well, Linux may be out of your league 😉
This article applies to workgroups only, not domains.
