Windows 10 privacy journey continues: more transparency and controls for you (By Marisa Rogers and Terry Myerson)
1 – We are improving in-product information about your privacy.
2 – We are updating the Microsoft privacy statement to include more information about the privacy enhancements in the Creators Update; as well as share more detail about the data we collect and use to support new features offered in this update.
3 – We are publishing more information about the data we collect.

Much more info here.
MUST READ Get it from the horses mouth. Don’t get it from some lame 3rd party.

Windows 10, version 1703 Diagnostic Data
This is a full list of what MS collects.
Again, MUST READ Get it from the horses mouth. Don’t get it from some lame 3rd party.

FINALLY!
Some real transparency here. Well done Microsoft!
Now…
If I could just get ONE button to turn it all off I would stop whining.

Windows 10 Creators Update, Maybe

March 28, 2017, 08:44(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

No official announcement but “they” say that RTM is out.
I have installed it via the upgrade assistant. Use this link courtesy Neowin.
It was an excellent upgrade process. It did not reinstall all the stupid default store apps/games and most tweaks were left in place. All seems well.
However, I strongly advise you do not install until well after official release. Watch Ask Woody for info/advice on when it is ready/safe to update.
Process I used:
– Backup (system image with Acronis True Image)
– Install via upgrade assistant (pay attention during install)
– Run Windows Update
– Run O&O Shutup 10
– Disk cleanup [cleanmgr (Previous Windows Installation) / Wise Disk Cleaner / CCleaner]

Weekend Random Stuff…

March 26, 2017, 13:20(EDT) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

Yesterday was a beautiful day here in Central Virginia so I rode a section of the Virginia Capital Trail on my new bike.
I finished the day off with a delicious Hardywood Bourbon Barrel Cru and an Ardent Company Man (German-style pils). It was a good day.

Maps Wrong?
I remember this issue being discussed several years ago but I just saw this article and thought I would pass it along.
Five Maps That Will Change How You See the World
Here is an article from 2014: Why every world map you’re looking at is WRONG: Africa, China and India are distorted despite access to accurate satellite data

Report Wrong
Apparently the original report was wrong, Vulkan’s Multi-GPU Support Isn’t Only For Windows 10. Good news!

Microsoft Wrong
‘Windows 10 destroyed our data!’ Microsoft hauled into US court.
Judge TweakHound’s decision, I’m ruling for the plaintiffs and awarding $10,000 in actual damages and $10,000,000,000 in punitive damages.

Just Plain Wrong
Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
No justification for this.

IoT Security Wrong
“96% of security professionals responding to a new survey expecting an increase in IoT breaches this year”
Thanks to Ed for the link!

Uber Wrong

Microsoft services are down and the Hackers at Pwn3Own hacked the crap out of the Microsoft Edge browser. Win10’s UAC isn’t faring well either.

Cleaning Up The Script

February 13, 2017, 10:19(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

th

In my post Blocking Windows 7 Telemetry I provided a script to remove Windows 7 telemetry updates. This was done in haste from an older script and I have now cleaned it up.
One poster in the AskWoody lounge stated certain updates were no longer there. I asked him to provide some documentation so I could verify his statement and he did not.
So, I had to dig in and find the answer myself. I checked a few of the KB articles for the updates and there weren’t any notices about updates being removed or superseded. That is par for the course for Microsoft.

Blocking Windows 7 Telemetry

February 11, 2017, 14:19(EST) By Eric (a.k.a. TweakHound)

In the last few days I’ve seen posts at AskWoody and Ghacks discussing blocking Windows 7 telemetry.
Since this seems to still be an issue I’ve decided to revive my Remove And Block GWX In Windows 7 script.
